Training

The IOWSCP provides a free, multi-agency, learning and development programme for professionals who work with children and families on the Isle of Wight. The programme is funded by the Partnership.

These multi-agency learning opportunities bring professionals together to develop knowledge and skills and are designed to complement single-agency training. They include virtual events and courses, webinars, workshops and eLearning.

All organisations working with children and families are responsible for ensuring that their staff and volunteers are confident and competent in carrying out their responsibilities for safeguarding children. Staff should have access to appropriate development opportunities to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to abuse and neglect.

Our learning and development programme is hosted on the Isle of Wight Council's Learning Hub.

Workforce Development Policy

The purpose of the Workforce Development Policy is to set out the roles and responsibilities of the Partnership and all organisations working with children and families to ensure the workforce receives appropriate safeguarding learning and development. It provides a shared understanding of single- and multi‑agency training, defines the standards for delivering learning and development, and explains how Partnership‑provided training will be evaluated.

Learning and Development Programme 2026-27

The Partnership provides a FREE, multi-agency, learning and development programme for all professionals and volunteers who work with children and families on the Isle of Wight. The programme is developed following an annual Learning Needs Analysis, informed by national guidance, local safeguarding priorities, practitioner feedback, quality assurance activity, and learning from child safeguarding practice reviews.

Voluntary and Community Sector Courses

Everyone who works with or supports children has a part to play in keeping them safe. Voluntary, community and faith groups make a huge contribution to supporting and enriching the lives of children and young people on the Isle of Wight. Your involvement helps us build stronger support networks and spot early signs of abuse or neglect. The Partnership's free safeguarding training is to support your work and for anyone in the voluntary and community sector who works with Island children and families.

Medical assessments in suspected child sexual abuse eLearning

Course Aims:

Understand why medical examinations are important in suspected child sexual abuse.
Understand that if police or social workers don’t refer for a CSA medical assessment, no one else will, potentially leaving health and safeguarding needs unmet.
Know when and how to refer children for an examination.
Be aware of the timescales for examinations and why prompt referrals are needed.
Have the confidence to explain to parents and children that the medical examination aims to be healing and therapeutic. It is non-invasive, child–led and child friendly.

LADO: For those that manage allegations

Aimed at anyone who is the responsible for managing and responding to allegations of harm in their provision/organisation.
